MISSISSAUGA, ON, Dec. 14, 2017 /CNW/ - Bird Construction Inc. ("Bird") announced today it is part of a consortium to design, build, finance and maintain Bruce Power's new Office Complex and Training Facility (the "Project") for an undisclosed amount. The Project, located in Kincardine, Ontario, is a new facility for Bruce Power that will be used to house office staff and for training of staff for its nuclear refurbishment program. Bird, as a member of the consortium that is lead by Concert Infrastructure, will carry out the design and construction of the Project.
The Project will include a 129,000-square-foot building that will house a new two-storey office area with classrooms, amenities and facilities for nearly 500 employees, as well as a warehouse training space required for the Bruce Power Major Component Replacement projects in support of the Government of Ontario's long-term energy plan. The Project also includes, as part of Bird's scope, site development including site services, a storm water pond, extension of a municipal road into the site, parking and landscaping.
Bird has been involved in the design of the facility as well as early works program and expects to commence construction activities shortly with the new centre expected to open in early 2019.
"This project win is a good example of the success of both the strategic diversification efforts of our industrial work program and entrance into the nuclear market," said Ian Boyd, Bird's President and CEO. "We are very excited to be working in the early stages of Bruce Power's reactor refurbishment program, which is set to begin in 2020 and will run through 2033."
