Canadian Women in Public Relations Announces Official Launch of New National Organization
Launch Celebration to be held May 11, 2016 at Hycroft in Vancouver, B.C., Canada
VANCOUVER, April 19, 2016 /CNW/ - The Organization of Canadian Women in Public Relations (CWPR), a new national organization, announced its official launch will be held on May 11, 2016 at the University Women's Club of Vancouver at Hycroft.
The organization has been formed to enable groups of women leaders in public relations across Canada to come together to share ideas, contacts and experiences, and to advocate for major issues directly affecting women working in the PR industry today.
"The official launch of our organization marks an important milestone in our efforts to educate women in public relations and to help them advance in the field across Canada," says Talia Beckett Davis, Chairwoman & President at CWPR. "One of our main goals when forming this organization was to provide a place for women to thrive earlier in their careers and to strengthen the capabilities of established leaders in the PR industry."
Organized by a team of experts in public relations, the May 11, 2016 launch event at Hycroft will look at, What's Next for Women in Canada's PR Industry, discuss misconceptions and redefine perceptions for our field. Speakers include: Bridgitte Anderson, General Manager, Edelman Vancouver; Christie Smith, Founder of the Elite Communicators Group; Director of Corporate Relations at Partnerships BC; Erin Dermer, Director of Media Relations and Social Media at TELUS; Natalie Langston, TV Host, Producer, Journalist, Emcee & Brand Ambassador; Fitness & Health Reporter, BC Living.
CWPR is contributing to Canada's image as a leader in the public relations industry. The organization is an important source of information for women in the field, a key player in the rapidly changing industry, and a global champion of women business leaders.
The development of CWPR is fully supported by Global Women in Public Relations (GWPR), based in London, UK. "The widely reported gender pay gap and the lack of women in the boardroom are two major issues affecting women working in PR worldwide," commented Angela Oakes and Sue Hardwick.
CWPR will be proactively reaching out to event partners, sponsors and PR industry leaders over the coming months to seek input into future activities. The CWPR team is committed to maintaining a high caliber of programs for members and aims to become a thought leader and influencer in the field of public relations.
Through student, individual and corporate subscriptions, CWPR members have access to online courses, resources, case studies and networking opportunities. www.womeninpr.ca
