Chef's Plate is revolutionizing the way Canadians cook healthy & affordable meals at home.
TORONTO, Oct. 14, 2015 /CNW/ - Chef's Plate, a Toronto based startup and Canada's market leader in gourmet ready-to-cook meal kit deliveries, announced today that they have received $2 million in financing led by Emil Capital Partners with participation from BrandProject LP and existing investors.
The company, less than a year old, has grown into a 50+ person workforce, experiencing double-digit growth week-over-week since its inception and building a fast-growing and loyal customer base in Ontario.
"When we started Chef's Plate, our vision was to make delicious, nutritious and affordable meals at home more accessible, and get Canadians back into their kitchens," said Jamie Shea, co-founder of Chef's Plate. "We're excited by how quickly Canadians have taken to Chef's Plate; we receive requests all the time from people, who want us to expand into their cities across the country. This new funding will allow us to do just that."
Chef's Plate will use its new funding to expand nationally, with plans to build two new fulfillment centres in Canada's east and west coasts that will create 100's of new jobs within the next year and make Chef's Plate accessible across the country.
Chef's Plate's success can be attributed to its winning formula. The company offers gourmet meal kits comprised of pre-portioned, farm-fresh ingredients with chef-inspired recipes – all delivered directly to customers' doors. The result: delicious home-cooked meals in 30 minutes or less with nothing wasted.
"We are working hard to build an efficient supply chain and infrastructure that connects consumers from coast to coast with local farmers," said Patrick Meyer, co-founder of Chef's Plate. "We believe it's a model in which everybody wins."
"Chef's Plate is an industry leader and innovator in Canada, changing the way people cook and eat at home," stated Andrew Black, CEO of BrandProject, who also founded Virgin Mobile Canada. "Canada's $90 billion grocery market is moving online and Chef's Plate has built an efficient platform to connect directly with local suppliers, and provide food at peak freshness to consumers. They've simplified the cooking experience for many in a generation who consider themselves to be passionate foodies, but lack the time, skills and energy required to create great meals at home."
One critical advantage that places Chef's Plate in the mainstream food delivery category is its ability to offer meals directly to consumers at only $10.95 per plate.
"We've been keenly watching the development of the meal-kit market in Canada; Chef's Plate's proven track record, and strong founding team are what attracted us to invest in them," said Andreas Guldin, CEO of Emil Capital. "They are well-positioned to lead this emerging market with great success and we are eager to be part of their journey."
