The Excel Funds Emerging Markets Symposium will highlight investment bright spots as these industry experts provide authoritative commentary and macro outlooks on:
"Emerging markets are being driven by macro tailwinds such as demographic dividends, low debt-to-GDP levels, and growing foreign reserves," says Bhim D. Asdhir, President and Chief Executive of Excel Funds Management Inc. "On the other hand, developed markets are facing structural headwinds, including aging populations and high debt levels. Comparatively, we think emerging markets present the more compelling investment opportunity between the two sectors."
According to Mr. Asdhir, Excel Funds has a longstanding history of partnering with the best asset managers located in key markets around the world, with the goal of maximizing long-term returns for investors. "We strongly believe that our global perspective, shaped by local, on-the-ground expertise is what sets us apart from our competitors," he says.
For many years China has been the engine of the world economy and within its capital markets, the question is often asked, where can the best opportunities be found and how can global investors benefit from new developments? Richard Pan, Head of QFII Investment with China Asset Management Company Limited, will provide a comprehensive look at the Chinese equity markets, diving deep into specific sectors that are positioned for future growth. "Despite the recent slowdown in global markets, China is determined to push forward its economic restructuring and market reforms," says Mr. Pan. "China is transitioning from an 'old economy' to a 'new economy', and at the same time relaxing market-entering restrictions for foreign investors and internationalizing the renminbi. As China Asset Management Company Limited seeks to expand our footprint into the North American market, we are excited to have this opportunity to share our expertise on investing in mainland China with both retail and institutional investors in Canada."
Latin America has certainly been front and center in emerging markets news as of late, and Scott Piper, Head of Latin American Equities at Itaú USA Asset Management Inc., will be on hand to discuss country-specific investment opportunities within the region. "We believe Latin America offers very attractive medium-term opportunities with strong risk-reward profiles," notes Mr. Piper. "Our strategy has an investment process focused on identifying secular growth themes in the region. Many of these themes are best captured in highly fragmented or immature sectors where organic growth is complimented by consolidation. Identifying those opportunities is where our on-the-ground resources and very experienced team can make a difference."
India is currently the fastest-growing major economy in the world, making it impossible for investors to ignore. At the Excel Funds Emerging Markets Symposium, Mahesh Patil, Co-Chief Investment Officer at Birla Sun Life Asset Management Company Limited will speak to what has been driving this growth in India, and what are the sectors to target to help generate strong returns. "Economic tailwinds and pro-business reforms, make India an attractive investment destination and we are already seeing this with record-high levels of capital inflows."
Attendees can also expect to get an in-depth look at emerging market fixed-income. Sergei Strigo, Head of Emerging Market Debt and Currency, with Amundi Asset Management, will serve as the resident expert in this asset class at the symposium. "In a world where yields across the developed markets are at an all-time low, emerging market debt stands out," says Mr. Strigo. "Income-seeking investors can pivot towards emerging market bonds, with the knowledge that they are generating attractive yields from high-quality, creditworthy, governments and corporations."
Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec will be moderating the institutional session in Montreal, while Benefits and Pension Monitor and Morningstar Canada will be sending representatives to moderate in Toronto. Bloomberg TV Canada will also be present and will be profiling several of the keynote speakers.
