Major renovation delivers upscale dining experience and eco-conscious food court operations
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Aug. 22, 2013 /CNW/ - Shoppers are getting the first taste of the new Square One Shopping Centre today with the grand opening of FOOD CENTRAL, a fully renovated and expanded food court that delivers an elevated dining experience and seven new food vendors. FOOD CENTRAL represents the completion of the first phase of a $320 Million development project currently underway at Square One.
FOOD CENTRAL features expanded seating areas in a modern and welcoming environment, brand new restroom and parenting facilities, and a new scullery service - where eat-in meals are served on signature, real table wear to enhance the dining experience.
"As part of Square One's commitment to environmental sustainability, we are very proud to introduce our new scullery service - the first food court in Canada to be converted into a scullery service, reducing food court waste by 60 per cent or 720 tons of waste," says Elena Price, Director of Marketing, Oxford Properties. "Shopping centre food courts nation-wide are filled with thousands of people eating their meals on styrofoam plates. The new scullery service will effectively increase our diversion rates and reduce water usage through an energy efficient dishwashing system and scullery process."
"In addition to our new scullery service, Square One is working with our tenants and guests to reduce our carbon footprint through the implementation of a Green Steps Program," adds Price. "Our eco-efficient business practices include the launch of a tenant recycling and waste program, an automated energy management system, and the installation of high-efficiency lighting to reduce energy usage."
With the grand opening of FOOD CENTRAL, Square One Shopping Centre welcomes seven first-to-market, food retailers providing customers with an extended variety of delicious and healthy dining options, including: Amaya, Big Smoke Burger, Chipotle Mexican Grill (opening mid-September), Cultures, Shanghai 360, Su & Shi and Szechuan Express. In total, FOOD CENTRAL delivers shoppers 26 food options in a vibrant, modern and eco-friendly dining venue.
The FOOD CENTRAL overhaul is part of Square One's $320 Million development project currently underway. Along with the opening of world-class luxury retailers such as Apple, Crate and Barrel, Coach, Michael Kors, Zara, Whole Foods, Lacoste and Target, the addition of a flagship Holt Renfrew secures Square One's position as one of North America's premier shopping destinations.
