The Dilawri Foundation launches a national anti-texting and driving campaign with a one-of-a-kind mobile app that offers users prizes for keeping their eyes on the road
TORONTO, Jan. 22, 2016 /CNW/ - Kickstart 2016 with a positive new habit that could earn you great prizes just for keeping your eyes on the road and hands off your smartphone. Launching today, texi is a free, interactive and incentivized mobile app that promotes safe driving by keeping users out of harm's way and focused on the road. With 22 percent of Canadian drivers admitting to texting while driving and 90 percent saying texting while driving is socially unacceptable1, the Dilawri Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to supporting communities across Canada, created this app as an innovative solution to curb texting and driving.
Users who activate texi before they start driving earn one point for every minute they travel without using their smartphone. They are entered into a monthly draw to win great prizes including gift cards, smartphones, travel vouchers, gas cards and more. The more points they earn, the bigger the prizes up for grabs. All drivers who use the app for more than 15 minutes are also entered into a draw to win a brand new Honda Fit.
"In our connected culture, it is important for Canadian drivers to have access to well-designed apps which effectively fulfill their need to stay in touch while eliminating the risks that come with distracted driving," says Kap Dilawri, co-founder of The Dilawri Foundation. "Our goal with texi is to take the driving experience one step further by getting drivers excited about using the app as soon as they get into the car and before they start driving."
texi is also social. When the app is turned on and the user is driving, the app will auto-respond to incoming texts with fun and playful memes on Android devices. Users can customize or select from a pre-set library of memes. The meme and auto-respond feature allows users to focus on the road while still informing the person attempting to reach them that they are driving. As an added bonus, users can also earn extra points for sharing texi on social media.
The safe driving app reflects The Dilawri Foundation's deep commitment to empowering Canadian youth to succeed today for a brighter tomorrow.
texi is now available on Google Play and the App Store for free download.
Monthly prizes for texi are donated by our generous partners. The Dilawri Foundation recognizes TELUS and Kernels Popcorn for their support of this initiative. The foundation also wishes to recognize texi's development partners: Auto Trader, TireLink and Snap-On.
