Canadian champion Daniels instrumental in bringing women's white water canoeing to the Olympics.
CALGARY, March 9, 2017 /CNW/ - Representing the community of Harmony in Rocky View County, Harmony Developments Inc. is pleased to announce its sponsorship of reigning Canadian whitewater slalom canoe champion Haley Daniels. After years of increasing success on the international level, Daniels has her eyes set on a spot representing Canada at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
Daniels was instrumental in successfully lobbying the International Olympic Commission to allow women's slalom and sprint canoe in the coming games, opening the athletes to improved funding options and exposing a field of competitive paddlers to a larger audience.
"As we've gotten to know Haley, we've all been impressed by the work she's done to reach the top of her sport as well as have the sport equally represented internationally and especially at the Olympics," says Garett Wohlberg, Director of Planning and Communications at Qualico Communities. "She is one of those rare, inspiring people who show us all that you can achieve what you put your mind to and we are thrilled to be a part of her journey and her team."
Daniels spent much of her childhood outdoors with her family, paddling through the waters around Calgary, Kananaskis and Banff. This early experience led to a life-long dedication to canoeing and a busy life training, competing, instructing and advocating for other athletes.
Daniels noticed Harmony after seeing nearly 100 colourful paddles and a canoe lining a stretch of fence posts along the TransCanada Highway, just west of Calgary. The paddles are an art project by staff members of Harmony Developments and Daniels saw them during her regular trips to train in Kananaskis. "When I passed the Calgary city limits I always noticed the colorful paddles," says Daniels, "I remembered childhood time spent outdoors with my family, where I first learned how to paddle… I started to research the community of Harmony and became extremely excited about how values mirrored my own - like living a healthy and active lifestyle and promoting education about environmental stewardship and conservation."
Birol Fisekci, President and CEO of Bordeaux Developments, says that working with Daniels is a natural fit. "One exciting thing about Haley is, as she says, she turned her dreams into goals and now she is accomplishing them. We hope the children growing up in Harmony, playing in the lake here or running outside, will have the role models and the foundation they need to aim high and reach their true potential. Haley is someone we can all look up to and she is a tremendous community ambassador for us."
Daniels will be seen at various Harmony events when not training or competing in local and international canoeing events. Harmony looks forward to supporting her in her exciting journey and her #TogethertoTokyo campaign.
