Images and Details of New Vertical Neighbourhood on Water's Edge Released
TORONTO, April 13, 2016 /CNW/ - Today international real estate firm Hines, and Tridel, Canada's leading condominium developer, announced the selection of award-winning Danish firm 3XN as the Design Architect of the developers' latest waterfront residential project at Bayside Toronto. Joined by 3XN principal and senior partner Kim Herforth Nielsen, the development partners and architect released initial renderings of the proposed condominium and provided design details.
Characterizing his approach to the waterfront site, architect Kim Herforth Nielsen described his firm's intention to create a vertical neighbourhood, with the family home as its inspiration.
"The design puts people first, paying particular attention to the quality of views, space and lifestyle. The development will command extraordinary views of the water, neighbouring parks, and the city skyline," says architect, Kim Herforth Nielsen.
Located along the water's edge on Queens Quay East in the developing East Bayfront neighbourhood, the new condominium will be defined by its unique L-shape design which ensures not only views out across the water for residents, but also provides ample natural light to the public areas at ground level. Featuring a dynamic and distinctive architectural form, the building steps down from its highest point at its north-western edge where it faces the city, to an amenity space on the 7th floor, before rising back up towards its eastern façade.
Herforth Nielsen adds that "while the stepped L-shape form provides a sculptural quality to the building, the large garden terraces, are the hallmark of the design." He says that the terraces will "activate the façade, enlivening it with texture, colour, depth and variety, while imbuing it with a human scale."
Selected as the building's Design Architects following a design competition, 3XN will be working with award-winning Toronto-based architecture firm, Kirkor Architects, which will serve as the project's Architect of Record.
"The design competition resulted in some truly inspiring visions from some of the world's leading architecture firms," says Hines Bayside Program Director, Michael Gross. "But it was quickly clear to the selection committee that 3XN had not only presented a compelling design, but also one that understood the site's importance to the City and the revitalization of the waterfront; the singular opportunities created by its location along the water's edge; and the market demands of Toronto's sophisticated condominium consumer."
The proposed condominium design by 3XN will be the next residential phase developed by Hines and Tridel at Bayside Toronto, following the successful launch of Aqualina and Aquavista (in 2013 and 2014), which were designed by the Miami-based architecture firm, Arquitectonica.
"The overwhelming sales success of Aqualina and Aquavista at Bayside Toronto reinforced the partners' shared vision that this is a site without parallel," says Tridel executive, Andrew DelZotto. "A key part of Waterfront Toronto's $1.1 billion dollar master-planned development of this 13 acre site, featuring two million square feet of residential, commercial and cultural uses; the anticipated launch of this beautiful new condominium will serve to further distinguish and define what has quickly become Toronto's best new neighbourhood.
Together with Hines, Tridel is thrilled to welcome 3XN to Toronto, and excited by what the firm will mean to the City's future."
