LiUNA Applauds the Dean Report, Supporting a Strong and Sustainable Ontario College of Trades
HAMILTON, ON, Nov. 23, 2015 /CNW/ - The provincial government released 'The Dean Review' authored by Mr. Tony Dean who was appointed by the provincial government to review a number of key areas of concern with the Ontario College of Trades.
LiUNA, the Labourers' International Union of North America, represents approximately 80,000 members across Ontario, 55,000 of who are in the Greater Toronto-Hamilton Area (GTHA). The depth of the scope of skills is numerous and exceeds over 50 different skill sets in the construction industry and the eleven (11) LiUNA local unions operate ten (10) comprehensive training and education centres across Ontario.
LiUNA is pleased with the result of the Dean Review. However we are cautiously optimistic with regards to the future governance of OCOT and are concerned on who will sit on the expert panel to adjudicate scope of work.
LiUNA is pleased that the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) will now adjudicate conflicts that may arise from OCOT enforcement, which was one of the most problematic areas of concern.
LiUNA is most anxious to resolve all issues surrounding the implementation of the Dean Review and will work closely with everyone involved.
