"Luisa and the Magic Star" Storybook Celebrates Canadian Space Achievements in Honour of Canada's 150th Anniversary
Now Available - a Canadian-themed Children's Picture Book with Book Signing on August 26, 2017
VANCOUVER, Aug. 8, 2017 /CNW/ - "Luisa and the Magic Star" is a colourful new picture book that connects children to the value of friendship while recognizing Canada's achievements in space. Dr. Roberta Bondar, the first Canadian woman astronaut in space, exclaims "Your book is delightful." Written and illustrated by Geraldine Santiago, the story book is intended to be a keepsake for generations of story-tellers and young readers.
What makes "Luisa and the Magic Star" a must-have for children's storybook collections is its focus on Canadian accomplishments in science and space. Canadiana is featured prominently in both poetry and illustrations throughout the story including the Canadian flag, maple tree, Canadarm (Canada's most famous robotic and technological achievement) along with a guest appearance by Dr. Roberta Bondar.
The primary character, Luisa, is a curious young girl with an adventurous spirit and love for music. She begins a fictional quest after finding an injured baby star which leads her through a series of attempts to help it return home. Along the way, Luisa learns about science as well as the true meaning of friendship.
"Luisa is a genuine and amiable character who is relatable to young readers," says Santiago. "She is inquisitive, can problem solve and shows creative thinking and strength in character by asking help from her mentor, Dr. Roberta Bondar." Santiago hopes that her story book creates an interest in science and music for children. In fact, the main character is based on her oldest daughter Luisa, who learned to play the violin at the age of five, and is now enrolled in an engineering program at university.
Now available in English and French at Indigo Chapters and other fine bookstores in a soft cover print edition, "Luisa and the Magic Star" is ideally suited for young readers between the ages of 5-8 years old. It is also the perfect bed time story for 1-5 year olds to be read by parents and grandparents alike.
A book signing and story-telling of "Luisa and the Magic Star" will be held at 11am on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the Indigo Chapters bookstore located at 2505 Granville Street, Vancouver, BC with 50% of the profits from book sales being donated to the BC Children's Hospital Foundation.
