TORONTO, July 30, 2014 /CNW/ - MCIS Language Services was ranked the No. 1 non-profit language service provider in the Top Language Service Providers in North America in 2014 survey by Common Sense Advisory, an organization that provides independent research to help companies profitably grow their businesses across borders, languages and cultures.
"It's great to be recognized for the fine work we are doing! Every day we impact lives in a positive way. You can't do anything if you can't communicate" says Executive Director Latha Sukumar. There are numerous examples of the positive life changing effects of accurate interpretation and translation in the legal and medical fields, from denials of visa applications with incorrect translations, to guilty convictions of innocent people who don't get accurate interpretation and at the extreme end, deaths from improper interpretation of medical instructions. These are just a few of the ways in which MCIS makes a difference in the world today.
MCIS has neither owners nor shareholders and works on a cost-recovery basis to provide the highest quality and most responsive language services. Its vision is to Create a World Without Language Barriers. A Ministry of Citizenship & Immigration (MCI) grant pays the cost of interpreters for victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse, human trafficking and elder abuse so MCIS can offer these services for free. Created in 1989 by volunteers from the Public Sector who needed to communicate with a linguistically diverse public, MCIS has grown to offer a full suite of language services to help Canadian and American businesses, governments, organizations and millions of people achieve clearer communication.
