MONTREAL, Nov. 22, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - As announced earlier this year, McKesson Canada is redesigning its Ontario distribution network to better serve its customers and their evolving needs, and position itself for future growth. As a part of this initiative, a new state of the art distribution centre is being built in Trenton (Quinte West). This new facility will allow McKesson to better meet the changing needs of its customers in a challenging market and legislative environment, while ensuring the long term viability of its distribution activities in Ontario.
As a result of these important changes, McKesson Canada had announced it anticipated significant job losses. The company met today with the impacted employees in Ontario to inform that 65 jobs will be lost in the Chatham distribution center and 84, for the Ottawa distribution center.
"This is a challenging day for the McKesson Canada family. We fully recognize that these business decisions have a high impact on the personal and professional lives of our employees. We are committed to providing them with the best available care throughout the transition," indicated Alain Champagne, Senior Vice President, Pharmaceutical Distribution and Operations.
Members of McKesson Canada's management team met with all of the affected Ontario employees earlier this afternoon in order to inform them of this decision and explain the support that they will receive during the course of the transition. The company is committed to treating each impacted employee with great consideration, in accordance with its ICARE shared values and ensuring the utmost respect and fairness, and will work closely with them throughout this transition.
