Media Advisory - Here's Proof: Google Map demonstrates National Canadian Film Day 150 is world's largest film festival. EVER.
HALIFAX, April 10, 2017 /CNW/ - National Canadian Film Day 150 (NCFD 150) promises to be the world's largest film festival – ever. And now there's proof. Today, REEL CANADA, the not-for-profit organization hosting NCFD 150 in celebration of Canada's 150th birthday, released a Google Map, showing all screenings taking place in Canada and across the world. Through this map, Canadians can see that in Kazakhstan, the Embassy of Canada will be screening The Rocket, and in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong International Film Festival will be playing Window Horses. Canadians can also use the map to find a National Canadian Film Day screening in their community.
In Nova Scotia alone there are more than 80 screenings taking place across the province. A few interesting local events include:
- The opening night of the Emerging Lens Film Festival will honour NCFD 150 with a screening of feature film Jean of the Joneses preceded by the short film Hustle & Heart. There will be a post-screening Q&A with Jean of the Joneses producer, Amos Adetuyi, via Skype, as well as Hustle & Heart director Koumbie, who will attend in person. The screening begins at 7:00 pm at the Canadian Museum of Immigration in Halifax.
- The McConnell Library in Sydney will screen Hitman Hart: Wrestling with Shadows at 6:30 p.m. The film is a behind the scenes look at professional wrestling, which explores the blurred lines between fact and fiction, the legacy of Canada's Hart family, and one of the most infamous and defining moments in wrestling history: Bret vs. Michaels in Montreal. The screening will be hosted by library staff and long-time wrestling fan, Shelley Brown.
