Minister Carr highlighted Canada as one of the world's most reliable and sustainable sources for energy products, services and technologies. Minister Carr took the opportunity to reiterate one of the Government of Canada's key priorities: to ensure resource industries can achieve market access sustainably and remain a source of jobs, prosperity and opportunity. He also emphasized Canada's unique position to provide cleaner fossil fuels and technologies to a world that increasingly values sustainable practices and low-carbon processes.
Minister Carr also discussed key actions recently taken by the Government of Canada with respect to energy. The first is joining Mission Innovation — the new global initiative bringing 20 countries together in support of clean energy research and development. The second is the Government's interim approach for major resource project reviews to restore confidence and certainty in Canada's environmental assessment process. And third, the signing of the North American Memorandum of Understanding in Winnipeg.
While in Houston, Minister Carr held private discussions with each of his fellow panelists, as well as the Honourable Tord Lien, Norway's Minister of Petroleum and Energy, and the Honourable Margaret McCuaig-Boyd, Alberta's Minister of Energy. He also met with Secretary Joaquín Coldwell and U.S. Secretary of Energy, Dr. Ernest Moniz, to discuss the latest actions in support of the recently signed North American Memorandum of Understanding on Climate Change and Energy Collaboration.

We can reset the course for our economy to create opportunities for years to come through initiatives like Mission Innovation. By reinvigorating energy innovation through investment in transformative, clean energy research and development, Canada can be both a major energy producer and a world leader in combating climate change."
