New Long Term Care Beds Welcome News for Arnprior's Seniors
TORONTO, Aug. 16, 2017 /CNW/ - AdvantAge Ontario is pleased to congratulate The Grove Arnprior and District Nursing Home on the announcement today that it has been approved to receive 36 additional long term care beds to support the redevelopment of the home.
"The Premier's announcement is great news for Arnprior," said Eric Hanna, President and CEO of Arnprior Regional Health, an AdvantAge Ontario member organization. "With the government's support we are building a state-of-the-art facility so that residents of The Grove can continue to live in safety and comfort. The announcement also sends a strong signal that government is ready to partner with operators of small and rural homes facing redevelopment to keep those beds in their communities."
Premier Kathleen Wynne was in Arnprior this morning to make the announcement and took the opportunity to speak with residents and staff about the redevelopment, which includes the building of a new 96-bed home and converting the current space into affordable housing for seniors. These projects, together with community services such as adult day programs, will provide a much-needed campus of care where local seniors can access the supports they need.
"Seniors campuses are a model that our Association has been advocating strongly for as they have tremendous potential to improve care outcomes, service quality and system responsiveness," said Bob Morton, Interim CEO of AdvantAge Ontario. "They are directly in line with the spirit and intent of the Patients First Act in that they support and encourage sector partners to work together at the local level to ensure that the right services are in the right place."
With the number of seniors expected to double in the next two decades, AdvantAge Ontario, the trusted voice for senior care, has been calling on the government to move forward with capacity planning and development to ensure that seniors have access to appropriate care at home and in the community. The Association outlined this call in a position paper released last year.
"The Grove's new campus is a great example of how the not-for-profit sector is applying innovative thinking and leadership to help support our seniors and meet their growing health care needs," added Morton.
