Public Affairs Association of Canada honour given annually to recognize an individual's outstanding contribution to public affairs
TORONTO, May 14, 2012 /CNW/ - The Public Affairs Association of Canada (PAAC) is pleased to announce that the recipient of its 2011 "Award of Distinction" is Carol Wilding, President and CEO, Toronto Board of Trade.
The Award is given each year to a member of the public affairs community who, over their career, has made a significant contribution to the discussion of current social or political issues in Canadian life. Immediate past recipients are John Weir, Vice Chair, Enterprise Canada and Robin Sears, Senior Partner, Navigator Ltd.
This year's award goes to Ms. Wilding because of her leadership in particular of the Toronto Board of Trade since 2007. Under her guidance, the Board has played a prominent role in bringing public policy issues of vital significance to the Greater Toronto Area to the highest levels of debate. Special note is made of the Board's resounding success in encouraging greater civic participation during the recent municipal and provincial elections.
"During the past four years, Ms. Wilding, the Toronto Board of Trade, and its 10,000 members have become a remarkable force for thought leadership and as a catalyst for stakeholder activism on the important business and public policy issues facing Toronto and its future prosperity", said John Capobianco, Chair, Public Affairs Association of Canada.
The Award will be presented to Ms. Wilding during a special luncheon at the Arcadian Lofts during the Association's annual conference, May 29, 2012, in Toronto.
"On behalf of all our members, I am delighted to accept the 2011 Award of Distinction from the Public Affairs Association of Canada. We all take pride in contributing to the increasing international importance and global competitiveness of the Toronto region," Carol Wilding said of her award. "In today's uncertain global economy, the Toronto region retains a competitive advantage. We cannot rest on our success to date. We must continue to be innovative and seize the opportunity to move the Toronto region forward."
