76-year-old nonprofit adopts the name of their globally recognized devotional
WINDSOR, ON, Jan. 16, 2015 /CNW/ - RBC Ministries Canada announces that it will now operate under the name Our Daily Bread Ministries Canada, effective immediately.
The Canadian ministry will adopt the name of their flagship publication Our Daily Bread, one of the most widely used devotionals in the English language and available around the world in more than 55 other languages. In French, the name will change to Ministères Notre Pain Quotidien, to reflect the name of the French devotional.
Even though the Canadian offices distribute more than 3 million resources annually, research showed public awareness of the RBC Ministries name was generally low compared to the well-known Our Daily Bread name. Enhancing the confusion was the usage of the RBC initials by the Royal Bank of Canada. "We had people thinking we were the philanthropic division of the Royal Bank," commented Brent Hackett, Executive Director and CEO of the Canadian operation, "However, we are a completely different entity, and have nothing to do with the bank at all. By changing our name to Our Daily Bread Ministries Canada, it immediately establishes who we are in the minds of our readers."
"Since the launch of the Our Daily Bread devotional in 1956, we continue to be amazed at how God uses this resource to help millions of people around the world grow closer to Him," said Rick DeHaan, Chairman of the Board of Our Daily Bread Ministries Canada and grandson of founder Dr. M.R. DeHaan. "The familiarity of this name will help our entire ministry better connect with people around the world and expand the reach of all our Bible-based resources."
This move consolidates the organization's numerous ministry efforts into a more singular, connected global presence. All ministry efforts of the organization, including Discover the Word audio, Day of Discovery video, Our Daily Journey, Discovery Series, Discovery House Publishers, and Christian University GlobalNet will share the same, new logo mark.
In addition to changing their name and adopting a single logo mark, Our Daily Bread Ministries Canada will make several other changes. This will include a relaunch of the English and French ministry websites, new video-based devotionals, improved mobile apps, and expanded ebook offerings that provide a more engaging experience with their full range of Bible-based resources.
"Although our name and logo is changing," said Hackett, "our focus remains the same: reaching out to people across Canada, and around the world with the message of God's love."
