SAN DIEGO, Aug. 16, 2017 /CNW/ -- Sony Electronics Inc. today announced that Cheryl K. Goodman will become the Head of Corporate Communications effective August 21, 2017. In her new role, Goodman will be the media spokesperson for Sony Electronics, reporting directly to Mike Fasulo, President and Chief Operating Officer.
Goodman will work closely with the entire Sony Electronics team, developing the strategy and execution of all internal and external communications to inform, excite and interpret the Sony brand to key stakeholders throughout Canada and the United States. Goodman will have direct oversight for media relations, editorial coverage, press releases, articles and executive and financial communications. She will also be responsible for the development and implementation of employee engagement activities that promote and enhance Sony's vision in various areas, including community relations. She will partner with the Sony Corporation Communications team and engage with industry associations, such as the CTA and DEG.
With over 20 years in the communications industry, Goodman's experience spans a variety of sectors including media, technology and non-profit organizations. Most recently, Goodman was Executive Director of Athena San Diego, a professional association serving women in science and technology throughout southern California. Under Goodman's leadership, Athena launched the "Pinnacle Pitch" competition for female entrepreneurs in STEM startups, doubled its STEM partnerships and launched original research and content. Prior to Athena, Goodman founded several startup companies and led public relations, industry analyst relations and business development functions at Qualcomm, Linspire and MP3.com.
Goodman began her media career as a broadcast journalist at KGTV and KFMB, ABC and CBS news affiliates in San Diego, California. She is an expert in creating interest in brands and products to actively drive news cycles, and has well-defined relationships with news editors and journalists at both national and international outlets.
