SMITHS FALLS, ON, Oct 28, 2015 /CNW/ - Tweed Inc. ("Tweed"), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Canopy Growth Corporation (TSXV: CGC), is proud to announce that it will sponsor the High Times 2015 Jamaican & World Cannabis Cups taking place in Negril, Jamaica.
This year's events will be hosted at Rastafari Rootzfest, a 3-day music and cultural festival that showcases and celebrates Rastafari culture. It is also the first cannabis- exempt event to take place in Jamaica since the country recognized Rastafari Sacramental and Religious freedoms earlier this year as part of a sweeping legislative reform of cannabis laws.
"We are excited to introduce the Tweed brand to Jamaicans," said Blaine Dowdle, Tweed's Head of International Development. "Today marks a significant step forward for Tweed as we prepare to move outside our Canadian borders and begin building relationships with the Rastafari community in Jamaica."
The Jamaican market is a logical place for Tweed to extend its brand presence outside of Canada. In addition to recently relaxed cannabis laws, the island of Jamaica and the Jamaican people have a long and established history with the cannabis plant.
The Cannabis Cup, widely considered to be the world's preeminent cannabis competition, attracts tourists and cannabis enthusiasts from around the world to sample products and interact with the leading names in the marijuana industry. Tweed has established a foothold in the cannabis community with its world-class production facilities and processes, and its innovative partnership with breeding powerhouse DNA Genetics. Working with Rastafari Rootzfest and the High Times 2015 Jamaican World Cannabis Cup are logical next steps.
"This is the 50th Cannabis Cup competition and the 49th Expo that we've run. We'll be showcasing the best Jamaican cannabis grown on the island, and at such a global event we're happy to have Tweed as the title sponsor. Working with the team at Tweed we'll show the world what the future of the marijuana industry will look like," Said Rick Cusick, of High Times.
Here's to Future Growth.
