Victoria Believes in Love: The City is Named the Most Romantic City in Canada by Amazon.ca for the Fourth Year in a Row
North Vancouver and Waterloo continue to show love and affection, remaining at No. 2 and No. 3 on the annual top 20 list
British Columbia and Ontario dominated the list with six cities each in the top 20
SEATTLE, Feb. 1, 2016 /CNW/ - Victoria continues to let love shine, taking the top spot for the fourth consecutive year as the Most Romantic City in Canada, announced today by Amazon.ca. This seventh annual ranking by Amazon.ca was compiled by comparing sales data from January 1, 2015 to January 1, 2016 on a per capita basis in cities with more than 80,000 residents. The data is based on purchases that included romance novels and relationships books (Kindle books and print books), romantic comedies, romantic tunes and sexual wellness products.

A closer look at the data revealed:
- Victoria's Hopeless Romantics: Victoria took the top spot in every category, purchasing the most romance novels and relationship books, romantic comedy DVDs, jewelry, romantic CDs and sexual wellness products. The second most romantic city, North Vancouver, placed second in the books and music categories, while Waterloo held on to their previous third-place ranking in the books, music and jewelry categories.
- West Coast Seduction: The book shelves of many Canadians on the West Coast were filled with romance and relationships books over the past year with Victoria and North Vancouver purchasing the most, followed by the Prairie and Southern Ontario cities of Waterloo, Saskatoon and Winnipeg. Other West Coast cities in the top 10 purchasing the most romance and relationship books included Nanaimo, Kelowna and Vancouver, making British Columbia the top province in the books category overall. This year, the most popular print book and Kindle book across Canada was Grey: Fifty Shades of Grey as Told by Christian by E L James.
- Happy Endings: Whether it's for date night or a special occasion, everyone loves a romantic comedy. Residents in Victoria, Fort Saskatchewan and Kingston clearly agree, ranking in the top three for purchasing the most romantic movies. The most popular romantic comedy in Canada was the uplifting story, The Hundred-Foot Journey, which was also the top movie among Victoria residents. Other favourites in Canada were classic movies such as Pretty Woman, While You Were Sleeping and Sleepless in Seattle.
- Sparkling from Head to Toe: Whether it's a gift for a loved one, a stunning new necklace for a first date or a wedding band for him or her, residents in Victoria, Fort Saskatchewan and Waterloo were showered in diamonds, emeralds and 24-carat gold, taking the top three spots in the jewelry category. The most popular purchase in all of Canada last year -- A pair of dazzling 18k White Gold Plated Cubic Zirconia Cushion Shape Halo Stud Earrings, which was also the top seller in Victoria.
- Setting the Mood: No romantic dinner at home is complete without some love songs. Following Victoria on the list of cities that purchased the most romance music was North Vancouver, Waterloo, Kingston and Guelph.
