Toronto PFLAG to honour Toronto Maple Leafs' President/GM, Brian Burke with Award
TORONTO, Jan. 9, 2012 /CNW/ - In one week, CBC's Ron MacLean and Rick Mercer join as Toronto PFLAG presents its distinguished "Ally Award" to member, Brian Burke, who added his voice to Toronto PFLAG's message of the ongoing struggle to stop homophobia and bullying.
Continuing its leadership in fighting for equal treatment of all, Toronto PFLAG and Mr. Burke joined at City Hall last May to recognize the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia. He continues to encourage everyone to combat bullying so no student feels fearful on a school bus or walking hall corridors.
"This award recognizes the importance of allies." said Toronto PFLAG President, Irene Miller. "Mr. Burke's support assists us in taking the anti-bullying message into schools, inspiring change that keeps families together and ensures LGBTQ individuals feel safe in society."
Toronto PFLAG presents the award at a cocktail reception January 16, 2012, 6-8pm at the Ed Mirvish Theatre (formerly Canon - 244 Victoria Street). Tickets available online at www.torontopflag.org.
