MONTRÉAL, March 17, 2025 /CNW/ - Estrie couple Denise Gauthier and Charles Bisaillon won the $5,000,000 Classic Jackpot in the March 8 Lotto 6/49 draw. They received their cheque during a media event in Sherbrooke.
"Quebecers have been lucky with Lotto 6/49, winning 10 jackpots in the past year, totalling over $75,000,000. And $5,000,000 prizes were won twice in Estrie," said Isabelle Jean, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Lottery Games at Loto-Québec.
Highlights
- Denise Gauthier usually forgets her lottery tickets in her purse after buying them.
- This time, she quickly thought about validating her ticket while on an errand at the grocery store. Referring to her win, the clerk said, "I can't give you your money." The store manager was called and told Gauthier her ticket was worth $5,000,000!
- Bisaillon, a retired construction worker, told us his partner called him to tell him they'd won. "Do you want some good news? We won the lottery!" He then asked her, "How much? $500?" He never even imagined a million, he added, laughing.
- The multimillionaire couple plan to use their windfall to engage more in their hobbies, such as walking in nature with their dog.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Proxim Daniel Desruisseaux et Francis Breault pharmacy at 20 Rue Principale Ouest in Cookshire-Eaton. The retailer will receive a 1% commission of $50,000.
