("Laura Canada " or "the Company"), a leading Canadian fashion retailer operating 140 stores under the banners Laura and Melanie Lyne, has announced that it has temporarily closed all stores as of Monday March 16, 2020, in an effort to protect Canadians and to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
"In light of the clear and strict recommendations of Canadian and provincial health officials for social distancing, we are compelled to act swiftly and decisively to combat the spread of COVID-19" said Kalman Fisher, Founder and President of Laura Canada, while stressing that the decision was made "from a strong sense of obligation to protect and promote the health and well being of employees, customers, and Canadians at large".
Mr. Fisher continued to say, "Along with collective governmental and societal efforts to contain this pandemic, we hope that this decision contributes to bringing us closer to putting this behind us, getting everyone back to work, and once again fully enjoying the relationships that we've nourished with employees and customers".
As of last week, most office employees were set up to temporarily work from home. The company will be assisting all affected employees through this exceptional transition period, and remains very confident in the business in the long term.
Mr. Fisher added: "Now is the time to be safe, be smart, and to take care of yourself, your family, and your friends. We are very hopeful and optimistic that with broad cooperation and prudence, this will pass and we will again be greeting customers in stores in the very near future."
