/ R E P E A T -- Alberta Kidney Cancer patients get vital help/
TORONTO, April 2, 2015 /CNW/ - Kidney Cancer Canada hosts its National Patient Conference in Calgary to help 4,300 Albertans diagnosed with the disease.
150 Albertans died last year from Canada's 10th most common cancer. That number will increase as incidence of diagnosis rise, despite no screening or early detection test for kidney cancer.
The free conference – including lunch – is open to kidney cancer patients, families, caregivers and survivors, providing them with the latest treatment options, disease management and resources.
Calgary's Dr. Daniel Heng is one of a number of featured experts presenting at the conference. The internationally recognized oncologist in the field of kidney cancer is known for the "Heng Criteria", established throughout the world for determining the best treatment approach for kidney cancer.
"These meetings are life-changing" says conference emcee, Stephen Andrew. "They empower people, connecting them with fellow patients and leading Kidney Cancer specialists so they can make informed choices about treatment".
And Andrew knows, after being diagnosed with metastatic disease in 2006 with a limited life expectancy, he now has no evidence of disease.
The conference is being held at the Sheraton Cavalier, 2620 - 32 Avenue Northeast, Calgary on Saturday April 11, 2015. Pre-registration is required at www.kidneycancercanada.ca or 1-866-598-7166.
