MONTREAL, June 3, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - Vaping products and other alternatives to smoking can play an important role in achieving the federal government's objective of reducing the smoking rate to five percent by 2035. Health Canada has acknowledged that vaping is a less harmful alternative to cigarettes, and in the UK, Public Health England (the equivalent of Health Canada) estimates that vaping is at least 95% less harmful than traditional cigarettes, and as a result of their progressive policies over 1.7 million smokers have quit smoking.
Despite the evolving attitudes towards harm reduction, it remains a controversial subject with important hurdles to overcome. The most pressing is striking the right regulatory balance that ensures that youth do not have access to nicotine products while adult smokers have the necessary information if they want to switch to an alternative to smoking.
As the leading tobacco company in Canada who offers a range of alternative nicotine products to adult smokers, Imperial Tobacco Canada invites journalists, the medical community and health groups to join them for a dialogue on this emerging category.
