/R E P E A T -- Media Advisory - National Airlines Council of Canada President media availability following release of passenger rights regulations/
OTTAWA, May 23, 2019 /CNW/ - Massimo Bergamini, President and CEO of the National Airlines Council of Canada (NACC) will be available for comment following the release tomorrow of the new passenger rights regulations.
Transport Minister Marc Garneau and Scott Streiner, Chair and CEO of the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA), will be making the announcement tomorrow during an 11:00 a.m. media event.
NACC, which represents Canada's largest air carriers – Air Canada, WestJet, Air Transat and Jazz Aviation – recently urged Transport Minister Garneau to reconsider a July 1 implementation date for the new regulations to provide time for officials to fix the most glaring problems with the rules and facilitate a seamless and successful implementation.
"Not only dd the draft regulations published last December lack the clarity needed by airlines to translate them into day-to-day commercial practices but they were often at odds with global airline operating realities," said Bergamini.
"I hope the minister took note of our call for a responsible and unhurried approach– when the federal government ran into difficulties rolling out its legal cannabis program as planned on July 1, 2018, it did the right thing and delayed implementation for a few months. Getting legal cannabis rules right was important. We think getting air travel regulations right is no less important."
