/R E P E A T -- Media Advisory - Québec City ceremony continues cross-Canada commemoration of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy/ Français
QUÉBEC, May 24, 2019 /CNW/ - The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development; Stéphane Lauzon, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence; Veterans and honoured guests will mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy with a special ceremony as part of the commemorative journey across Canada to Halifax. This spring, trains carrying combat boots—symbolic of the many Canadians who traded in their civilian shoes for combat boots and took a similar journey during the Second World War—are travelling across the country, from Vancouver to Halifax. The boots will arrive in Halifax and will be part of the Government of Canada signature ceremony on June 6.

As well as the 75th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy, 2019 marks the 5th anniversary of the end of Canada's Mission in Afghanistan, and the 75th anniversaries of the Battle of the Scheldt and the Italian Campaign during the Second World War.
