GATINEAU, QC, Oct. 16, 2024 /CNW/ - The Independent Special Interlocutor for Missing Children and Unmarked Graves and Burial Sites associated with Indian Residential Schools, Kimberly R. Murray, will release her Final Report and the Indigenous-led Reparations Framework at the 7th National Gathering on Unmarked Burials.
This event will take place on October 29, 2024, at the Hilton Lac-Leamy Hotel in Gatineau, Quebec.
Media representatives are invited to attend the release of the Final Report which was prepared after extensive engagement with Survivors, Indigenous families and communities across Canada. The Final Report will identify elements needed to create an Indigenous-led Reparations Framework for missing and disappeared Indigenous children in Canada.
Following the presentation of the Final Report, Interlocutor Murray will be available for individual media interviews from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (EST). Media interested in scheduling interviews are encouraged to do so in advance.

About the Independent Special Interlocutor: The Independent Special Interlocutor functions independently and impartially, in a non-partisan and transparent manner, to achieve the objectives of her mandate. The mandate includes identifying needed measures for a new federal legal framework to ensure the respectful and culturally appropriate treatment of unmarked graves and burial sites of children associated with former Indian Residential Schools. The Independent Special Interlocutor had a two-year mandate that was extended for an additional six months and that concludes in December 2024. The Independent Special Interlocutor is required to provide a Final Report to the federal Minister of Justice Attorney General of Canada.
