/R E P E A T -- Media Invitation - Leo, a marionette with autistic spectrum disorder - the new star of the Jasmin Roy Sophie Desmarais Foundation's education videos/ Français
The initiative aims to help young people, parents and educators develop emotional and interpersonal skills towards autistic children
MONTREAL, April 2, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - In 2018, 1 in 66 children ages 5 to 17 in Canada was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), according to the Government of Canada. In addition to experiencing the world differently, children with autism are three times more likely to be bullied than their neurotypical peers.
To celebrate World Autism Month this April and as part of its mission to counter bullying, violence and discrimination against elementary and secondary school children, the Jasmin Roy Sophie Desmarais Foundation invites you on April 9th to the launch of its new initiative: educational videos starring Leo, a marionette with autism. The goal of the videos, accompanied by an educational guide, is to create positive and kind environments for everyone. These innovative tools will help parents, educators and young people develop their own emotional and interpersonal skills in the context of making connections with children with ASD.
The first series of videos will be shown at the press conference alongside students from the École Saint-Barthélemy, which we are pleased to invite you to attend. We will also take the opportunity to present the book Caillou Meets Sophie, a story about autism, an initiative from the honorary patron, Sophie Desmarais.
