TORONTO, April 23, 2015 /CNW/ - smart Canada is pleased to announce that it has once again partnered with Earth Day Canada (EDC) in support of its mission to generate awareness toward the personal choices one can make to decrease their eco-footprint. On April 22, EDC launched Earth Day Every Day – a program which includes a mobile-friendly interactive site aimed at providing people and businesses with the means to help them reduce Canada's greenhouse gas emissions by 20% over the next five years. This program enables Canadians to track their daily positive impacts on reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and share their results and success stories with friends and the world via social media. With an emphasis on "Clean Commuting" decisions, participating Canadians will be recognized for achieving carbon reduction milestones.
With EDC highlighting 25 different ways to make an impact on clean commuting, today's focus will be to "Go Electric". The smart fortwo electric drive embodies this initiative as a highly efficient mode of transportation. In fact, compared to gas-powered vehicles, a higher percentage of the energy in the smart's battery is transferred directly to power the car. The smart fortwo electric drive emits 0 kilograms of CO2. What's more, if you are charging with 100% renewable-sourced electricity, it will then be virtually CO2 free throughout its driving life.
In order to further demonstrate the benefits of going electric, Deb Doncaster, President of Earth Day Canada took eco-influencers for test drives in the smart fortwo electric drive around the city. A video was created to capture their experience and perceptions of the vehicle.
smart Canada has partnered with Earth Day Canada's Clean Commute program to give eco-influencers the opportunity to test drive the smart fortwo electric drive.
"Our test drivers were all excited about driving the smart fortwo electric drive, even before they got behind the wheel," commented Earth Day Canada President and test drive host Deb Doncaster. "But they were especially enthusiastic once they were able to take the car out for a spin. Driving an EV really brings the experience home. It is a wonderful ride with no carbon emissions. Electric vehicles are clearly an ideal choice for people who must use a car, but would also like to do their part in contributing to a clean commute on Earth day, and every day."
"smart has paved the way to significantly change transportation paradigms, so it is only natural for us to support Earth Day Canada's long term vision of significantly reducing carbon emissions in Canada", said Gavin Allen, Vice President, Marketing. "Compact, agile, environmentally-friendly and stylish, the smart has evolved from a practical small car to a sustainable urban mobility solution that is ideally suited to demonstrate the benefits of driving an electric vehicle. We are pleased to be partnering with Earth Day Canada and to be working closely with them to help effect change."
