102 FM The Fox to receive Fire Safety Award
TORONTO, June 4, 2013 /CNW/ - 102 FM The Fox will receive a Fire Safety Award from the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council at a ceremony on June 12, 2013 in Toronto. The annual Fire Safety Awards recognize outstanding contributions to fire protection and prevention in Ontario.
During Fire Prevention Week last October, 102 FM The Fox partnered with North Bay Fire & Emergency Services in a joint effort to 'fill-a-fire-truck' with food. This event included a live remote with their radio personalities from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at a local grocery store.
The radio station staged this event at no charge to the fire department, which equated to a value of $7,900. Throughout the day, many fire safety messages and tips were repeated, focusing on the importance of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and home fire escape planning. As well, during Fire Prevention Week, safety messages and activities were promoted on air.
"Thanks to the generous support of 102 FM The Fox, this event had a significant impact on fire safety in North Bay," said Ted Wieclawek, Ontario Fire Marshal and Chair, Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council. "The 'fill-a-fire-truck' event raised more than 3,000 pounds of food for the North Bay food bank and each person who donated food received a fire safety education package. In addition the community at large received a big dose of fire education on 102 FM."
The Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council gratefully acknowledges the support of its sponsors in this event: Technical Standards and Safety Authority, The Co-operators Group, Kidde Canada Inc., Home Depot of Canada Inc., Proctor & Gamble Inc., Electrical Safety Authority, CSA Group, Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc., Roxul Inc. and Underwriters' Laboratories of Canada.
