LARGEST SINGLE-TICKET WIN IN CANADIAN LOTTERY HISTORY
TORONTO, Oct. 1, 2015 /CNW/ - "Dennis deserves an academy award for this one. He kept that incredible secret for days then as calm as calm could be, he surprised us with the news," exclaimed Brad Rome, one of 12 co-workers from Canadian Black Book in Markham who won the record-high $60 million LOTTO MAX jackpot from the Friday September 25, 2015 draw. Dennis is Dennis Cartier, a co-worker and the office's lottery group leader. Group members told their story while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto where they picked up their winnings.
Dennis says he didn't find out about the group's big win until Saturday afternoon while on his way to pick up lunch. He stopped at a gas station, used OLG's Ticket Checker and couldn't believe his eyes. He then folded the ticket, stuffed it in his wallet, raced home, signed it and put it up on top of the fridge. Dennis joked, "I wanted to stay calm, eat my burrito and check the numbers again online. Every single number matched up, so I went back to where I bought the ticket and that's when it all became very real."
Dennis was supposed to take Monday off work. Instead he arrived at the office in a t-shirt, shorts and sandals and not in his usual suit and called a meeting. The group gathered in the office's boardroom and that's when Dennis calmly proclaimed, "We won the largest jackpot in LOTTO MAX history." The group erupted in cheers and laughter and several people even jumped on the boardroom table and started dancing.
The 12 winners who are each receiving $5 million of the $60 million LOTTO MAX jackpot are:
Dennis Cartier of Brampton
Bradley Rome of Toronto
Allison Scarangella Goodwin of Brampton
Andre Dias of Bradford
Andrew Breininger of Pickering
Anna Calcaterra of Richmond Hill
Claudio Santos of Bradford
Darlene Wright of Toronto
Joshua Bailey of Toronto
Karen Penney of Newmarket
Kathleen Ward of Toronto
Lawrence Shred of Brampton
OLG's Vice President of Lottery Marketing and Sales Wendy Montgomery did the cheque presentation at the Prize Centre and said, "It's always a great pleasure to celebrate a jackpot win with our lottery players, especially when we are celebrating the first-ever $60 million LOTTO MAX jackpot win."
Each member of this winning group has a different plan for the prize money but there are two things everyone agrees on. No one is quitting their day job at Canadian Black Book and they are sticking together as a lottery group and ready to buy more LOTTO MAX tickets.
The winning ticket was purchased at Petro Canada on Kennedy Road in Brampton.
