MONTREAL, March 24, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The Ordre des comptables professionnels agréés du Québec proudly celebrated the entry of 175 new CPAs into the profession during the prestigious Permit Presentation ceremony held on Saturday at the Palais des congrès de Montréal. Hosted by Olympic champion Sylvie Bernier, this event marks the culmination of a rigorous process to achieve excellence undertaken by these new members of the Order. Parents and friends were in attendance to applaud their official entry into the accounting profession. Since April 2013, the Order has welcomed a total of 1,361 new CPAs to the pros.
Chair of the Order Stephan Robitaille, FCPA, FCGA, who personally congratulated his new colleagues, was very pleased once again by the enthusiasm and determination that characterizes so well those who are joining the third largest professional order in Quebec. "Quebec's accounting profession is in better shape than ever. At each Permit Presentation, I am always impressed by our profession's dynamism and vitality. We proudly welcome these new CPAs who embrace the values of integrity, excellence, rigour, commitment and openness."
Thanks to the exceptional work of professors, mentors, training offices and employers who gave them their start, the new CPAs are ready to uphold the honour of the profession everywhere they will be called upon to work. "Each day, whether working in business, public practice, government or education, the new members of the Order that we have just welcomed will embody the dynamism of the profession, a profession that is in touch with the real needs of organizations, and therefore constantly evolving. They are entering the profession at a time when the public's expectations are very high, and we know they are well equipped to rise to the challenges they will face throughout their career," said Daniel McMahon, FCPA, FCA, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Order.
The Order would also like to recognize the unfailing support of the Foundation of Quebec CPAs, which has awarded 769 scholarships since its creation a year and a half ago. During Saturday's ceremony, no less than 21 new and aspiring CPAs were honoured by the Foundation for their exceptional performances on the professional exams of the three paths leading to the CPA designation, evidence of the Foundation's active involvement in the education of future CPAs and in the new elite in CPA knowledge.
