MONTRÉAL, March 12,2019 /CNW Telbec/ - The 13th edition of the ever-popular Printemps du MAC events will take place in a month (Friday, April 12, at 9 p.m., at New City Gas). CLASH KIDS will be an unusual evening where participants will find themselves immersed in Berlin's edgy underground scene, complete with unfettered punk rock atmosphere. For the first time in its history, the event will be held elsewhere than the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal (MAC): participants will be squatting in New City Gas, chosen specifically for its industrial decor, and transformed into an underground venue for the night. The Printemps du MAC events are a highlight of the Montréal social calendar and a concrete way to support the Museum: all proceeds from the evening will go to the Fondation du MAC, whose mission is to support the MAC in its various activities: building the collection, producing exhibitions, promoting contemporary art and offering educational programs.
CLASH KIDS: a one-of-a-kind fashion, culture and food experience Designed by Maison W, in collaboration with the Printemps du MAC Committee, the event's theme travels back to the eccentric world of 80s Berlin and its punk rock youths. Plaid, army boots, punk hairdos, shaved or brightly dyed hair, fishnet stockings and in-your-face makeup will be on display. Living up to their reputation, the Printemps du MAC event focuses heavily on fashion and promote the inclusion of all genres and styles: anything goes during this celebration of freedom of expression.
Also known for their party atmosphere and their trendy, avant-garde attendees, the Printemps du MAC event will once again host over 1,200 contemporary art-loving professionals and welcome them to an exclusive cocktail party where they will embark on a cultural and gastronomic discovery. Attendees will have the chance to dance to sets by renown DJs, enjoy a unique evening in a bold setting and bid on various lots in the Printemps du MAC's largest auction yet. Ten artists–both up-and-coming and more established, with pieces in private, companies and museum collections–have generously donated a piece for the cause. Attendees will discover the works of Zoé Boivin, Dan Brault, Qarim Brown, David & Jorden Doody, Nicolas Grenier, Trevor Kiernander, Josiane Lanthier, Philippe Pallotta, Celia Perrin Sidarous and Jerry Pigeon. The pieces were chosen based on a desire to create a bridge between a community of artists who have grown with the MAC and young philanthropists from Montréal's contemporary art scene.
A direct impact on the MAC activities Les Printemps du MAC were created in 2006 as a means to raise awareness among younger generations of contemporary art and of the crucial role the MAC plays in protecting and promoting this heritage in Québec, Canada and the world.
Every year, the event dazzles under the guidance of the Printemps du MAC Organizing Committee, a group of young philanthropists passionate about contemporary art, whose mission is to plan a unique event with genuine added value for guests as well as provide the MAC with exposure benefitting the Fondation du Musée d'art contemporain.
On average, over $150,000 of profits are raised each year for the Foundation thanks to the event's attendees and partners.
"It's always a great honour to help plan Les Printemps du MAC," said Stefanie Stergiotis (Flair Airlines), Co-Chair of the Printemps du MAC Committee. "The cause the event supports is very dear to me. It's a concrete way to support the exhibitions and activities of the MAC, Canada's biggest museum dedicated exclusively to contemporary art, and underscore such art's fundamental role in our society."
According to Alexandra De Roy (EXO), Co-Chair of the Printemps du MAC Committee, "MAC attendance has been increasing over the past few years; our committee's efforts over the last thirteen years have helped foster a strong sense of belonging to the Museum in the younger generation. The Printemps du MAC are like our annual party where we can support the Fondation du MAC concretely and showcase contemporary art to potential new art lovers."
