MONTREAL, Oct. 15, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - The mood was upbeat last night at the Société des Arts technologiques as well-known faces from the worlds of culture, the arts and sports mingled with the intrepid skiers, walkers, and runners who will take part in the 15th edition of Tremblant's 24h. The reception was held to mark the official start of the fundraising race for this important philanthropic event and was a prime opportunity for participating teams to find further motivation to surpass their objectives.
From December 4 to 6, thousands of participants will hit the ski slopes of Tremblant and run or walk the surrounding trails to raise funds for sick and underprivileged children. So far, more than 200 teams have signed up, including almost 60 teams taking part in the 24-hour Walk & Run portion of the event. Teams have until November 20 to sign up.
15th edition of Tremblant's 24h
Fifteen years of generosity means more than $18 million raised for children's causes since 2001. Fifteen years of generosity is also due to the many participants who, year after year, rally to help us break our own records! Last year we raised over $2.3 million. Organisers aim to top that this year, raising the bar to $2.5 million. "I'm impressed by how far we've come since the first edition in 2001, and by the steadfast dedication of the entire community, which grows each year and has made our event a must for participants and crucial to our cause, the cause of children," said Simon St-Arnaud, executive producer of Tremblant's 24h since 2001.
Joining forces for the kids
As it does each year, Tremblant's 24h has enlisted a group of dedicated event ambassadors. This year, they are Benoit Gagnon, Philippe Fehmiu, Mario Tessier, Anne-Marie Withenshaw, Érik Guay, Dustin Cook, Lianne Laing and Stuntman Stu, who will join the skiers in their efforts, while Dominic Arpin, Marie-Claude Sabourin, Frédéric Plante and Yanick Bouchard will be on foot with the participants of the concurrent Walk & Run event. Each participating team will also be symbolically paired with one of the 10 sponsored children, which puts a face to the cause and spurs participants to work even harder toward their fundraising goal. A number of other celebrities have signed up to support the teams and ambassadors, including Pierre Bruneau, Paul Doucet, Lyne Bessette, Patrice Godin and Jean-François Guérin.
In keeping with tradition, the event will once again lend a party atmosphere to the resort. The programme includes a revamped "party at the summit" on Friday night and the traditional Saturday night event at the foot of the slopes hosted by David Laflèche, featuring Dumas, Kevin Bazinet, Foreigh Diplomat, Martin Deschamps, Lili-Ann DeFrancesco and Jonas, just to name a few. Then, at 10:30 p.m., the world-renowned band Simple Plan will take to the stage for the 15th anniversary special show.
Worthy beneficiaries, important partners
Organisations that will benefit from the funds raised by the event are: Fondation Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau, Fondation Tremblant and the Ottawa Senators Foundation.
Lastly, we should mention that the event was made possible by the invaluable participation of sponsors and major donors: Manuvie, TELUS, Helly Hansen, Kombi, Sunice, CRI Agence, CGI, Van Houtte, Coca Cola, Brookfield Renewable Energy Group and Mont-Tremblant Resort. Year after year, they've renewed their generous commitment to Tremblant's 24h.
Manulife is proud to partner with Tremblant's 24h of Skiing and once again support the event's volunteer program. This event provides an ideal opportunity to reiterate our commitment toward the well-being of the communities in which we operate. Our enthusiastic ski teams look forward to playing a crucial role in helping to raise funds for the children's charity organizations involved in this year's event.
"TELUS has participated in the 24h of Tremblant for 11 years, and we have contributed over $720,000 to date to developing pediatric care," says Benoit Simard, Vice-President, Business Marketing, TELUS Québec. "Helping sick kids is a cause close to our hearts; in fact, dozens of TELUS team members take part in the 24 hours of Tremblant every year. Whether by hitting the slopes or volunteering at the event, we are committed to improving the quality of life of children who truly need it."
"24 hours of style, performance and most importantly support for the well-being of children. At Helly Hansen, we are proud to support the 24h Walk and Run for the second time so children across Quebec can enjoy the outdoors we all passionately love."
The health and well-being of children are a main focus of our community involvement and we are proud to support the 24h of Tremblant. This edition is particularly special, as the event's 15th anniversary coincides with our 10th participation. Over the years, Brookfield Renewable has given (ou contributed?) more than $ 700,000 to the cause, thanks to the commitment and generosity of our employees, their families and our business partners. We look forward to seeing you on the slopes in December!" said Richard Legault, Executive Chairman of Brookfield Renewable.
CGI is proud to be participating in 24h Tremblant for the eighth consecutive year. Thanks to their five teams, CGI members are happy to help a cause so close to their hearts. In its role as a partner of expertise, CGI is also pleased to be offering its solutions for 24h Tremblant's transactional platform. At CGI, community involvement is one of our core values.
