16 Awards Handed Out at 20th Annual Fire Safety Awards

ETOBICOKE, ON, June 15, 2016 /CNW/ - Fire Marshal Ross Nichols celebrated the 20^th anniversary of the Fire Safety Awards today by handing out awards to 16 brave and deserving recipients at a luncheon held today at the Famous People's Players Theatre.

Mr. Nichols, chair of the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council, handed out 15 Fire Safety Awards and one Award for Excellence in Fire Safety.

The awards honour Ontario individuals and organizations which have made outstanding contributions toward fire safety, prevention and carbon monoxide awareness in the province. There are two award categories: Fire Safety Awards and Fire Safety Action Awards for children age 16 or under, who took appropriate action to prevent or minimize injury or damage caused by a fire.

Nominations for the awards are received from Ontario fire departments and reviewed by an awards selection committee.

"These individuals and organizations have earned our gratitude and praise" said Ross Nichols, Fire Marshal and Chief of Emergency Management for the province.  "Whether we are talking about the fast thinking and brave life-saving actions of an individual during a fire, or the diligent promotion of life and fire safety messaging by an organization, we all benefit."
