17 CAPE BRETON LEADERS TO BE EXILED TO THE FORTRESS OF LOUISBOURG - CASTAWAYS
TO RAISE FUNDS FOR CHILDREN'S WISH
SYDNEY, NS, Sept. 9 /CNW/ - On Friday, September 10, one of Cape Breton's most respected and successful business leaders, Dwight Rudderham will be exiled to the Fortress of Louisbourg, along with 16 local business leaders to compete in Exile Island - Cape Breton in support of The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada - Nova Scotia Chapter, despite a technical problem that nearly canceled the event.
The Fortress of Louisbourg experienced a disruption in power this week as a result of Hurricane Earl, and it seemed doubtful that power would be restored in time to proceed with the event. Several volunteers from Nova Scotia Power and Parks Canada staff worked tirelessly to repair and restore the power supply to the fortress.
"I was very proud when our guys pitched in," commented Ken Paruch, Nova Scotia Power's Customer Service Manager, Eastern Service Territory, "knowing the importance of the event and the adverse effect it would have had on the Children's Wish Fundraiser, they worked late Tuesday night and Wednesday to assist with the installation of a new underground cable."
Dwight Rudderham, Partner at Rudderham Chernin, will lead his battalion in this unique fundraising adventure that pits some of Cape Breton's top business leaders against each other in a fierce competition for bragging rights and a very good cause. The day-long event features rival battalions competing in challenges testing their mental, creative and physical abilities. Armed with little more than Blackberrys, cell phones and their natural instincts to 'Outsmart, Outplay, Outpledge!', Rudderham and all the battalion members will raise funds to help grant wishes for local children diagnosed with life threatening illnesses by collecting pledges from friends, family and business associates.
"I am very grateful to the people at Nova Scotia Power for their incredible support. Emera (Nova Scotia Power's parent company), has been a long time supporter of The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada and thanks to their dedicated staff, we can fulfill our mission of helping to create lasting memories for children with a life threatening illness and their families," says Exile Island Co-Chair Dwight Rudderham. "I know first-hand how generous Cape Bretoners are and I invite everybody to show similar generosity in helping all our battalions make wishes come true for some very special kids."
Last year's Exile Island events in Nova Scotia raised over $408,000, enabling many children to receive their most heartfelt wish. The goal of Exile Island - Cape Breton is to raise the funds to grant wishes to seven children in Cape Breton. Halifax will host its Exile Island event on September 23, 2010.
