MONTREAL, July 29, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - The results of the Common Final Examination (CFE) of chartered professional accountants (CPA), a major milestone in the CPA qualification process, were released today. The Quebec CPA Order proudly recognizes the success of 178 Quebec candidates at this national examination, which was held on May 25, 26 and 27, 2016. They will be joined by a large cohort of candidates scheduled to sit for the next CFE offering this coming September.
"In preparing for the CFE, a crucial step towards the profession, these future chartered professional accountants had to demonstrate tremendous determination," said André Dugal, FCPA, FCA, Chair of the Order. "Quebec can boast about a new generation that will meet the highest standards of professionalism, rigour and integrity."
The National Honour Roll
Three Quebec candidates made the National Honour Roll, which features the candidates with the top 20 CFE results from across Canada. Michael Bourbonnais, a graduate of the national program (HEC Montréal), earned the Gold Medal for Quebec and a $2,500 cash prize from CPA Canada for the highest standing in Quebec. He will also receive a $1,500 cash prize from the CPA Foundation, as will the two other Quebec candidates who made the National Honour Roll, whose names are Marc-Antoine Dagenais, a graduate of the university graduate program (HEC Montréal), and Kevin Daoust, a graduate of the university graduate program (Université du Québec en Outaouais).
The CFE: A rigorous competency-based examination
The three-day Common Final Examination is held simultaneously across Canada. The purpose of the CFE is to measure the proficiency in the technical and enabling competencies of future CPAs, who will be called upon to practice their profession in all sectors of the economy. The examination covers various subjects, including financial reporting, strategy and governance, management accounting, audit and assurance, finance and taxation.
