MONTRÉAL, Dec. 1, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - Daniel Merette pocketed the whopping $19,643,388 Lotto 6/49 jackpot of November 28! The Laurentides resident found out he was a millionaire yesterday when he had his ticket validated by a retailer. The cashier didn't quite know what to make of the message on her terminal screen. After checking with her supervisor, she told Mr. Merette "you'll need to fill out a form, you've won the jackpot!" Mr. Merette had carefully selected his numbers based on the birthdays of his loved ones, adding the number 13 for good luck. The lucky winner, who didn't get a wink of sleep that night, tucked the ticket into one of his socks for safe-keeping during his trip to Loto-Québec headquarters! He is already planning to pamper those closest to him. He also intends to use part of his new-found fortune to travel.
Mr. Merette is the eighth Laurentides resident to win a million dollars or more since April 1, 2015, bringing the region's total to nearly $45 million. In Québec, since January 1, 2015, Lotto 6/49 has paid out 33 prizes of $1 million or more, totalling more than $90 million!
The winning ticket was purchased at Dépanneur Voisin located at 2959 Boulevard des Promenades in Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac. The retailer will receive a 1% prize of $196,438.
