MONTREAL, May 31, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Accueil Bonneau collected 200 000 $ yesterday evening at the Montréal Science Centre during the 9th edition of the Soirée homard et vin blanc. The event's Honorary Chair was Mr. Ghislain Parent, Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice-President - Finance and Treasury at the National Bank. Once again, the event was very popular this year: the tickets were sold in record time.
The 450 guests were moved by the testimonial of Michel, a beneficiary of the Accueil Bonneau's services, who is in a process of social reintegration. We also wish to mention the special participation of Mr. Guy Mongrain and Mr. Marcel Leboeuf, who acted respectively as master of ceremonies and host of the live auction.
"This year, Accueil Bonneau's lobster and white wine benefit evening is extra special as the foundation celebrates its 135th anniversary," noted Ghislain Parent, Honorary Chair of the event. "From the outset, Accueil Bonneau has worked with individuals struggling with homelessness to help them find housing, become more independent, and improve their overall situation. Through its commitment to help the neediest members of society, Accueil Bonneau plays a vital role in developing and improving our community."
"The demand for basic needs, in addition to psychosocial counselling and intervention on the field, are as pressing as ever. Donations from the Montréal community are necessary to maintain the services we offer to those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. We heartily thank the participation of contributors who have allowed Accueil Bonneau to accomplish its mission for nearly 135 years," stated Aubin Boudreau, Managing Director at Accueil Bonneau.
About Accueil Bonneau
Accueil Bonneau was founded in Montréal in 1877. It offers a wide array of services in order to facilitate the residential stability and social reintegration of homeless people and those at risk of becoming homeless. In order to carry out this mission, Accueil Bonneau counts on its dynamic team of specialized caregivers, who offer the homeless psychosocial and financial counselling, as well as volunteers who dispense basic need services such as meals, housing, and clothing. In 2011, Accueil Bonneau, with the help of its 225 volunteers, served 305 000 meals (about 800 meals per day) and offered 125 foot treatments, a roof to 166 lodgers distributed in four buildings, 1,000 haircuts, 5,000 showers, and 60,000 clothing and basic need items distributed to 2,600 people. In addition, 225 people benefited from psychosocial and financial counselling services, and thousands of consultations with people in need helped to improve their quality of life.
