MONTREAL, Oct. 10, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - More than 500 B2B meetings are scheduled today between 23 high-profile prime manufacturers and 120 Québec-based SMEs at the seventh edition of the Buyer/Supplier Day, organized by STIQ.
The meetings will follow a meticulously planned "business speed dating" format. STIQ pays careful attention to matching expertise provided by the SMEs with the concrete supply requirements expressed by the prime manufacturers. This attention to detail means that each company attends relevant meetings, and those precious few minutes are optimized.
"OEMs are facing fierce international competition and they're looking to reduce the numbers of their suppliers," explains Normand Voyer, Executive Vice-President, STIQ. "It is therefore essential for Québec SMEs to position themselves within major players' supply chains without delay. Otherwise, a great many contracts traditionally awarded to Québec-based subcontractors could be transferred to foreign companies that are more proactive. With this event, we want to give local suppliers the opportunity to present their expertise directly to buyers of these corporations, which are true economic forces."
Leveraging its contacts network in the manufacturing sector and its extensive knowledge of Québec's industrial capacity, STIQ will be hosting, for the seventh year in a row, prime manufacturers active in prominent industry segments, at various points along international supply chains.

Examples to follow to ensure growth for Québec industry
In conjunction with the scheduled B2B meetings, three conferences will be presented, on the theme Innovation: The Key to Supply Chain Optimization in Québec.
Leading off, the National Research Council - Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) will profile its initiative aimed at improving manufacturing SMEs' competitiveness through digital technology. Tecnickrome Aéronautique, a company that benefits from this program, will be on hand to testify to the tangible impact of new technologies on its development.
Representatives of Mecachrome Canada and Groupe Meloche, will then give a talk on the two companies' recent partnership, which aims to address growing worldwide demand in the aerospace industry.
Lastly, STIQ will welcome Pascal Aguettaz, Vice-President, Corporate Services, with Cascades, as its keynote speaker for a luncheon conference.
