2013 Climate Leadership Gala in Washington: Earth Day Québec presents its innovative projects beyond its borders Français
MONTREAL, May 23, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - It is today, Thursday, May 23, that the 4th edition of the Climate Leadership Gala, an exclusive event organized by the Earth Day Network that brings together 400 of the world's green economy leaders, took place in Washington. Earth Day Québec, represented on the occasion by Pierre Lussier, the organization's executive vice-president, and Manon Genest, chairperson of the Board of Directors, was an event partner this year.
Earth Day Québec took advantage of the forum to present its projects, including taxi-sharing and the electronic device recycling program "Calling Earth," and in doing so demonstrated its one-of-a-kind contribution within the Earth Day Network. "We're very pleased that Earth Day Québec has joined us for this gala. Their approach to supporting companies is unlike any other and we all benefit from the expertise they have acquired over the years," said Kathleen Rogers, president of Earth Day Network.
Among the guests of honour, the Québec minister of Sustainable Development, Environment, Wildlife and Parks, Yves-François Blanchet, addressed the audience to present the ambitious goals the Government of Québec has set for itself in the fight against climate change. In addition, Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla Motors and chairman of SolarCity, received the Climate Visionary Award, while Melanne S. Verveer, United States ambassador-at-large for Global Women's Issues, received the 3rd Women & Green Economy (WAGE) Award. Richard Branson, CEO of Virgin, was also among the guests of honour at the event.
The gala, which was an opportunity to celebrate environmental achievements and to shape our post-carbon future, underscored the importance that Quebecers place on environmental issues, and more specifically on climate change.
"Minister Blanchet's presentation has once again demonstrated that Québec continues to be a leader in the fight against climate change," affirmed Pierre Lussier, executive vice-president of Earth Day Québec.
