MONTRÉAL, March 20, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Russell Copeman, Mayor of the Côte-des-Neiges—Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (CDN—NDG) borough, wants to see the borough's issues addressed in the current election campaign. The mayor's objective is to create synergy among the elected officials of the four levels of government in CDN—NDG. He's asking all candidates to be forthcoming on their positions concerning access routes to the MUHC and the infrastructures required for the Hippodrome development.
The arrival of the McGill University Hospital Centre will mean exponential growth to traffic flow at the Vendôme metro station. According to Mr. Copeman, "It's high time to plan construction of a second access point for the Vendôme station to handle the comings and goings of MUHC users, particularly those with reduced mobility, as well as the needs of people who already use the station. This is a major Montréal transit hub and the Government of Quebec should invest funds to ensure its sustainability."
The issue for Québec election candidates in the borough's northern sector is infrastructure, says the Mayor. "With the huge residential potential of the Hippodrome district, we will need schools, points of service and roads. Extending boulevard Cavendish is essential to ensure proper development in this urban zone."
"Access to the MUHC and the Hippodrome residential development represent major issues for CDN—NDG. I ask that all candidates seeking election in CDN—NDG take a similar position," concludes Mr. Copeman.
On January 24, Mayor Copeman gathered all elected officials in the CDN—NDG area for the purpose of adopting a common development strategy. All agreed on the importance of tearing down the walls that separate the various levels of government and recognizing the position of vital importance that Montréal holds.
