MONTRÉAL, May 22, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton proudly acknowledges the success of two Quebec businesses, Lassonde Industries Inc. and Ultima Foods, recipients of 2014 Leadership Awards. These awards are presented by the Food in Canada food and beverage processing magazine and sponsored by Grant Thornton LLP.
"Recognizing the excellence, talent and passion of dynamic Quebec businesses and helping them grow are important to Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton. This is why we are proud to acknowledge the outstanding contribution of two Quebec agrifood businesses that are national and international success stories. Their accomplishments serve as an inspiration for all Quebec enterprises," stated President and CEO, Emilio B. Imbriglio.
"Optimism in the food and beverage sector is high according to the A Hunger for Growth: Food and Beverage Looks to the Future report released in December 2013. The study indicates that an improved global economic outlook creates a favourable climate for the food and beverage sector. All the more reason for Quebec to have innovative, committed businesses that are able to capitalize on this opportunity," concluded Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton Partner Guy Barthell, from the Strategy and Performance Consulting Group and Agrifood specialist.
About the Quebec winners
Ultima Foods, Longueuil, Quebec, (Growth Award)
Ultima Foods took the bold decision to launch a full line of yogurt products under its own brand name, IÖGO, and brought it to market in only 16 months. The team was starting from scratch: with no brand name, product names, recipes, packaging or bar codes, and nothing in the stores. In an industry dominated by multinationals, the risks were extremely high. But thanks to the expertise of local employees, the launch was highly successful, and the company's market share was already 12.3% within ten weeks.
Lassonde Industries Inc., Rougemont, Quebec, (Community & Industry Leadership Award)
For this Quebec juice producer, giving back to the community is fundamental to its business philosophy. Involvement in community-based programs that emphasize health, education and sport includes community programs like Start2Finish and Tel-Jeunes. The company also supports the health and wellness of employees and is active within their industry, including involvement in the founding of an organization of provincial food and beverage producers and allowing managers to donate three weeks of their time to counsel fledgling businesses in developing countries.
