Taste of Toronto joins Toronto Taste in supporting Second Harvest
TORONTO, May 7, 2014 /CNW/ - Two of the city's premier outdoor food events, the inaugural Taste of Toronto and the 24-year-old Toronto Taste, presented by The Daniels Corporation, today announced a partnership that will make 2014 the tastiest summer yet. The launch of the world-renowned restaurant festival in Toronto will work with the long-established culinary fundraiser to support Second Harvest.
As the main provider of fresh food to people in need in Toronto, Second Harvest picks up donated, excess food that would otherwise go to waste and delivers it to over 200 community agencies. Taste of Toronto has named Second Harvest its official charity partner, and will align with Toronto Taste to cross promote and support each other's events.
"Offering two very unique experiences, Second Harvest's Toronto Taste has been one of the city's premier food events for 24 years, in support of such a worthy cause, while Taste of Toronto will bring one of the world's most celebrated food festivals to our doorstep," said Mark McEwan of McEwan Group, and participant at Toronto Taste and Taste of Toronto. "This is going to be a great summer for Torontonians and tourists who want to explore the city's food scene, and we are excited to participate in both events."
Toronto Taste rings in the season on Sunday, June 8 at 6 p.m., lakeside at Corus Quay, featuring 70 gourmet food and beverage stations from celebrity chefs and top food purveyors. In addition to funds raised by live, silent and fine wine auctions, each $250 ticket enables Second Harvest to rescue enough food to provide 500 meals to those in need. Tax receipts will be issued for $125, and tickets are now available at torontotaste.ca.
An international sensation held in 20 cities around the world, IMG's Taste Festivals will launch in North America at Fort York from July 24 to 27. The first-ever annual Taste of Toronto event features specially-created small plate menus, exclusive classes and demonstrations with some of the city's most acclaimed chefs, in addition to a festival market featuring 50 local food vendors. Second Harvest will have an onsite presence. Divided into six 4-hour lunch and dinner sessions, tickets for Taste of Toronto are now on sale and are available for purchase at tasteoftoronto.com.
