2014 Winners Announced as MMVA Hosts Mark a New Jenner-ation of Star Power

TORONTO, June 15, 2014 /CNW/ - The 2014 MUCH MUSIC VIDEO AWARDS celebrated its 25th anniversary broadcast in explosive style with this year's biggest winners being homegrown superstars. Hit-makers Hedley scored the top honours, nabbing an impressive three MMVAs, for Video of the Year, Pop Video of the Year, and Your Fave Video, while International superstar Drake nabbed two awards, for Hip-Hop Video of the Year and International Video of the Year by a Canadian. Hedley kicked off the show performing their hit single, "Crazy For You" to the deafening crowd.
Once again, Much HQ, at the corner of Queen and John streets in Toronto, played host to thousands of fans, getting up close and personal with their favourite celebs. Co-hosts Kendall and Kylie Jenner ruled the stage and led an action-packed evening, sharing the fun with some of the biggest names in music and Hollywood, including Ariana Grande, Chloë Grace Moretz, Colton Haynes, Imagine Dragons, Kiernan Shipka, Laura Vandervoort, Lorde, MAGIC!, Sam Roberts Band, and The Weeknd.
On social media, the MMVAs took over Twitter in Canada with 22 MMVA-related topics trending during the broadcast. Among these topics, 13 trended worldwide, including #SingItEd which held the #1 spot internationally. MMVA performers also took to Twitter to share the MMVA experience with fans, including Lorde who tweeted her thanks to both Much and Canada.
The two-hour music extravaganza encores tomorrow, Monday, June 16, at 7 p.m. ET, and again throughout the week on Much or on demand now at much.ca.
Fans can also catch the first-ever MMVA after-show, MMVA STYLE SQUAD, produced by H&M and Much. Kicking off the 2014 MUCH MUSIC VIDEO AWARDS was three-time, 2014 MMVA-winner Hedley, with a killer rendition of their latest hit single, "Crazy For You". Returning MMVA-favourite Ed Sheeran wowed fans with his never-failing vocal prowess in "Sing", while MMVA first-timers MAGIC! were nothing short of remarkable, performing their infectious mega-hit, "Rude". Calgary-born Kiesza electrified audiences in her television performance debut, performing her #1 U.K. hit "Hideaway", followed by a majestic performance of "Tennis Court" and "Team" by global pop phenom Lorde, who picked up an MMVA for International Video of The Year (Artist). Canadian rockers Sam Roberts Band picked up their sixth MMVA award with their Rock Video of The Year win, and performed an anthem-worthy version of their hit single, "We're All In This Together". Radio chart-topper Virginia To Vegas Feat. Alyssa Reid blew the roof off with "We Are Stars", and bigger-than-life Imagine Dragons, who picked up the International Video of The Year (Group) award, delivered a spell-binding performance of their five-time platinum-selling single "Demons" and their juggernaut hit, "Radioactive". Breakout artist Ariana Grande tore it down with a show-stopping performance of her record-breaking, multi-platinum-selling single, "Problem", to close the show.
