CALGARY, Alberta, April 28, 2015 /CNW/ - Applications are now being accepted for the 2015 Nexen Oil Sands Scholarship. First introduced in 2012, the program was created to ensure youth in Anzac and surrounding areas can share in the success of the Long Lake integrated steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) and upgrading facility, which is operated by Nexen Energy ULC (a wholly owned subsidiary of CNOOC Limited).
The Nexen Oil Sands Scholarship provides financial support to high school graduates pursuing post-secondary education and skills training through university degrees, college diplomas, certificate programs at vocational schools and apprenticeships.
"The Oil Sands Scholarship provides access to educational opportunities that can lead individuals to a rewarding career. And we know an investment in an individual's education is an investment in the future of our community," says Ron Bailey, Senior VP, Canadian Operations, Nexen Energy ULC.
There are no restrictions on the program of study or discipline supported by the Nexen Oil Sands Scholarship. The amount of the scholarship varies:
University/College/Vocational Schools/Technical Schools
Apprenticeships
To be eligible for the Nexen Oil Sands Scholarship, applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents and have graduated from high school at the time of the award.
Applicants must be graduating from one of the following schools in 2015:
Applicants must also be a resident of one of the following Alberta communities while attending one of the above noted high schools:
