MISSISSAUGA, ON, Dec. 2, 2014 /CNW/ - Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) is pleased to announce its win for the all-new 2015 Subaru Outback as AJAC's (Automobile Journalists Association of Canada) Best New SUV under $35K.
The brand new 2015 Outback prevailed over its competition to win the category and will continue on to compete for overall Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year. The winner will be announced on press day at the Canadian International AutoShow, held in Toronto in mid-February.
AJAC's Canadian Car of the Year Awards (CCOTY) program includes real-world driving on public roads in order to provide consumers with sound, comparative information on vehicles that are new to the market. Journalist evaluations are based on detailed criteria, including everything from safety features to cargo capacity, in order to select the best new vehicles in various categories. The goal is, ultimately, to provide highly relevant consumer-driven information for Canadian shoppers to take with them in the marketplace.
"I'm extremely proud of our highly awarded 2015 Outback," said Shiro Ohta, chairman, president and CEO of Subaru Canada, Inc. "Since it was introduced into dealerships earlier this summer, the Outback has been breaking sales records across Canada, surpassing all previous monthly records for three consecutive months to ultimately help Subaru Canada set a new all-time annual sales record this year. Experts and consumers agree: the 2015 Outback delivers an optimal blend of driving confidence and peace of mind."
Like all Subaru models, the 2015 Outback is an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety TOP SAFETY PICK and models equipped with its optional EyeSight preventative safety technology have earned a superior rating and TOP SAFETY PICK PLUS award.
Subaru's all-new 2015 Outback is an adventure-ready, mid-size SUV alternative that provides stellar car-like handling with the versatility of an SUV. The Touring Package with optional Technology Package, featuring EyeSight Driver Assist technology, was submitted for consideration in this category and is priced at $33,695.
The 2015 Outback comes standard with a 4-cylinder double-overhead-cam 2.5-litre SUBARU BOXER engine, full-time Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and a 6-speed manual transmission that is only available in Canada, as well as an optional Lineartronic continuously variable transmission. A 3.6-litre engine is also available. The 2.5-litre engine receives numerous enhancements for lighter weight, improved efficiency and quieter operation. Fuel economy ratings for the four-cylinder Outback have improved with 9.3 L/100 KM in city conditions, 7.1 L/100 KM on the highway and 8.3 L/100 KM combined.
A host of new safety features are now available including Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, steering-responsive fog lights and a standard reverse camera. These features not only exude Subaru's commitment to providing superior levels of safety, but also an increased comfort level for occupants that rivals premium offerings.
With nearly the same exterior footprint as the previous Outback, the new model offers a roomier passenger cabin and expanded cargo capability. The Outback also offers unprecedented levels of interior refinement with new soft-touch materials as well as upgraded convenience and entertainment features.
