MISSISSAUGA, ON, Sept. 27, 2016 /CNW/ - Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) today announced the release of its 2017 Subaru Crosstrek, available in late September in Subaru dealerships across Canada. Combining efficiency with a bold five-door design and highly capable chassis, the sporty Crosstrek delivers outstanding value with its stellar fuel economy, everyday comfort, exceptional safety standards and in-demand convenience and entertainment features.
Power and Handling
The 2.0L DOHC naturally aspirated horizontally opposed SUBARU BOXER engine delivers superior reliability, responsiveness and fuel efficiency, returning 7.2 L/100 km during highway driving and 9.1 L/100 km in city driving conditions in models equipped with the optional Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). All models come standard with a 5-speed manual transmission that includes a Hill Holder system.
Capability and Value
The 2017 Crosstrek offers all the benefits of a true crossover, such as ample cargo space of 1,470 L (seats folded flat) and excellent versatility that allows it to deal with any on-road and off-road driving situations. The Crosstrek also offers top-of-class ground clearance among its competitive set, with 220mm of capability to clear obstacles with ease.
A testament to its competitive pricing, unique design and overall capability is the fact that the Crosstrek was awarded the 2016 ALG residual value segment award winner of Best Compact Car.
Crosstrek Kazan Edition
Available only for the 2017 model year, Subaru has added a new limited volume special edition that exemplifies the Subaru values. The Crosstrek Kazan Edition, which means volcano in Japanese, comes with an exclusive Pure Red exterior paint, complemented by an Onyx Black cloth interior with red stitching. On the outside, this trim features exclusive 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels with a lightweight aerodynamic design, a mesh front grille, power tilting and sliding glass sunroof, large roofline spoiler and rear bumper step pad. The interior comes fully equipped including a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift boot with red stitching, and black and red design accents throughout.
All-around Safety
For added protection around all sides of the vehicle, the 2017 Crosstrek is available with Subaru Rear/Side Vehicle Detection System (SRVD) for the first time. This system uses two radar sensors under the rear combination lights to detect vehicles approaching from the adjacent areas and notifies the driver of potential collisions. When the driver is about to change lanes, Blind Spot Detection warns of vehicles already in the adjacent lane while Lane Change Assist warns of vehicles in adjacent lanes and approaching at a high rate of speed. Rear Cross Traffic Alert is activated when the driver is reversing and identifies vehicles approaching from either side.
This new feature combines with the full slate of safety equipment already standard on the 2017 Crosstrek, including a comprehensive airbag system, traction and vehicle dynamics control, and the available EyeSight® Driver Assist System.
All of the top-notch safety systems, both passive and active, have made the Crosstrek a favourite with IIHS. Not only did it receive a 2016 Top Safety Pick+ award for its outstanding performance in crashworthiness and crash avoidance & mitigation tests, it has been a Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ award winner ever since the model was introduced in 2013 (when equipped with optional EyeSight®).
Standard Subaru Symmetrical Full-time All-Wheel Drive
Subaru offers two different symmetrical full-time All-Wheel Drive systems in the 2017 Crosstrek. In the trims equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission, power is distributed 50/50 front to rear through a viscous-coupling limited-slip differential.
In trims equipped with the Lineartronic CVT, an electronically controlled multi-plate transfer clutch AWD system actively manages power distribution based on acceleration, deceleration and available traction. Under normal driving conditions, power is distributed 60/40 front to rear.
Models
The 2017 Crosstrek is available in Touring, Sport and Limited trims and is powered by a 148-hp 2.0-litre 4-cylinder SUBARU BOXER engine. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard in the Touring, Sport and Limited trims, with optional CVT.
