2018 Canadian Screen Awards: Nominees for best in film, television and digital media announced
TORONTO, Jan. 16, 2018 /CNW/ - The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television (The Canadian Academy), along with Sarain Fox, host of RISE on VICELAND, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee of CBC's Kim's Convenience and Karine Vanasse of CTV's Cardinal announced the nominees in 30 categories for the 2018 Canadian Screen Awards Broadcast Gala at the Globe and Mail Centre in downtown Toronto today.
"Our homegrown work just keeps getting stronger and more relevant, and we look forward to celebrating the best of it all at the 2018 Canadian Screen Awards," said Beth Janson, CEO, Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television. "As our media landscape changes and audiences have more choices of what to watch than ever before, the Canadian Screen Awards are an essential opportunity to highlight our own voices and the diverse array of our work."
The Canadian Screen Awards will be presented over four nights during Canadian Screen Week (March 5 – 11, 2018) culminating with the Canadian Screen Awards Broadcast Gala, which will be televised live on CBC on Sunday, March 11 at 8 p.m. (9 p.m. AT/ 9:30 p.m. NT). The winners in each of the 30 categories, as well as the Special Award recipients announced last fall (Margaret Atwood, Pat Ellingson, Clark Johnson, Peter Mansbridge, Denis McGrath, Karyn Pugliese, Jay Switzer, Rick Mercer Report, and Bell Let's Talk) will be honoured at presentations taking place during Canadian Screen Week.

Canadian Screen Week is the largest national showcase of talent in the film, television and digital media sectors in Canada. It is a week of events that gathers members of the Canadian Academy from across the wide spectrum of Canada's screen industry to connect with Canadians and celebrate achievements. Events include: the Gala Honouring Excellence in Non-Fiction Programming (March 6, 2018), the Gala Honouring Excellence in Creative Fiction Storytelling (March 7, 2018), the Gala Honouring Excellence in Digital and Immersive Storytelling (March 8, 2018), Family Fan Day (March 10, 2018) and the Canadian Screen Awards Broadcast Gala (March 11, 2018). In addition, the Bell Media House, the ultimate place for industry professionals to learn and network, will once again house the Members' Lounge during the day from March 6th to 9th, 2018. This year's theme is Charting a Course Forward, with panel discussions focusing on Blockchain Technology, Sustainable Production and Questions of Appropriation and Voice. There will also be a live podcast featuring 2018 Canadian Screen Award nominees.

The 2018 nominations were decided by nominating juries and members of the Canadian Academy. The membership will place their votes between January 23 and February 12, 2018 to determine the winners.
